will the shifters work with shimano 9 speed?
No. Shimano 10 speed shifters pull 2.3mm of cable. Shimano 9 speed shifters pull 2.5mm of cable.
You can however use any Shimano mech with any Shimano shifter, as long as the shifter matches the cassette. The only exception to this is old Dura Ace.
