What this lack of women out there also means is that you end up riding with the men. Which is hard and frustrating and therefore quite often demoralising because you're always being dropped! Although it's less bitchy than women-only racing :) (truth)
This means that only the really dedicated (and masochistic) hang in and continue racing, and that's why you see the emergence of a few really dominant women - only the strong ones stick it out because you're on your own so much.
