...I don't understand the reason not to give a euro birth (assuming limited spaces) to the team that wins the league?

They're unrelated.

If there was a Euro or UK 'Cup', then I could see giving the cup holders a place in related tournaments. Similiar to what was decided (somewhat contentiously and on the spot) about Geneva in Berlin, given that the ECMC has always been the acknowledged 'Euros' until now.
