Dude, don't stress it, a bit of sarcasm and piss taking is par for the course here.
As Fred said, just rock up with your camera, get to know the guys, bring cake/beer/weed (or other appropriate polo related drugs), and start snapping away, they're a friendly bunch and i'm sure most won't mind.
