Trouble is Velobase has pics of an Athena crank on the Croce d'Aune page.
But you're right, they are interesting.
Take some better pics (side on for a start) and post please. Maybe contact Nigel @ Campy Oldy as well to see if he can shed any light on the prototype marking.
