  • Got a merckx frame I'm building up as a project but the paint work is in need of some love. The guy who owned it before me has obviously tried to spray straight over the surface rust, so I think I'm going to have to wire wool/sandpaper it down and match the colour.

I don't really want to strip it and take it to armortex as the paint work is quite complex and lovely. There's only a few areas of rust that need sorting (bits on the top tube and a couple of spots next to the bb. I've got some replacement merckx forks on the way (mine are a little bent) that need to be colour matched aswel (should I get these guys done properly? I don't really want a powder coat finish)

Basically I'm looking for advice and suggestions - or if anyone's got any good links to guides for this kind of thing. cheers

oh, and yes - I did try the search, all got was "look at my rad powdercoat" or "I did this with car paint" type threads.
