Ola, me and my mate are still on the hunt for a vintage chainset for his dad’s 90th birthday (still cycling!), he’s a lifelong cyclist and obsessed with his (incredible) selection of high end vintage tourers and track bikes, so he only wants the best.
We’re looking for a CHATER LEA ideally but realise these are gold-dust, so any other suggestions (Williams and Stronglight were put forward before) would be great. It’ll need to be cottered and a 42T would be ideal – but we can always get a chainring separately.
He is expecting to have to pay through the nose for it so don’t worry about high price tags, we’re not expecting a 40’s stronglight set for a fiver.
Also if anyone wants to throw in re-chroming advice that would be amazing! And for those wondering we've asked at Sargent & Co (thanks edmundro!) but no luck so far, and we are monitoring the bay (just lost out on a bid before this) but thought I'd throw out a thread in case anyone on here has any lying around.
