Plastics no fun, can't you find a beer can to use? Much sharper edges!
It's great all the what i call "proper (old boy) cyclists" bikes that i take loose cup and cone b/b's out of, always have a home-made metal sleeve in them. Works great, unlike cardboard, which i found in someone's shell one day.. wet cardboard, nice!
