Bikes are road legal if they have "adequate" brakes, however to sell them you need to have two independent braking systems.

Freewheel with only a front brake is retarded and a long way off being adequate (especially in the wet, etc). Freewheel with no back brake is definitely the domain of poseurs only.

Take it to a fixed gear thread and have an interesting debate, instead of going for the easy targets, eh? Fixed gear no brakes is arguably more 'dangerous' than single speed one brake, and no-one seems to give a wet slap about those.
