Sort of a pointless post, but:
I'm sitting on my couch staring at a more or less identical wheel that belongs to my flatmate. I can confirm that these things way less than nothing even with tyre and tube, and they make the coolest sound ever when you ride them.
Also, he rode his to cambridge with no issues. He's also used electrical tape to cover the braking surface, which makes the wheel look nice and clean, if that's your thing.
