Pads may get a bit of laughter from other people, but I really like not having swollen, painful and scabby elbows and knees. get some.
Also I beleive if you tighten up your headset your bars shouldn't be so bad, if it's really extreme, you could try forks with different rake?
You can also practice falling by doing stupid things on grass (take that which ever way yo like :-), I do beleive that practicing falling makes you better at it! I didn't wear my elbow pads at souths this week (just didn't get round to putting them on), played plenty of games, still fell off, but managed to not mangle my elbows for a change! :-)
I will still be putting them back on the next time I see harry playing though ;-)
