AFAIK there's nothing in common bar the name. A swift google suggests that Mavic cassettes may be available that will fit a Shimano hub and be compatible with Campag spacing.
I'd resist fucking about too extensively with either wheel, meself. The original because they're rare and beautiful and the new one because they're stunning good wheels (I have them on my "best" bike) and I wouldn't like to see one hurt.
