Unfortunately there is more than one way to contact a seller.
A lot of people have phone numbers as a result of hanging out at one of the social events or taking part in rides.
So a call or TXT can take care of buying first.
And then there's PM's, and visitor messages, or an email... 2 of those would be invisible.
And there's the classic "dibs" system... but this has been fought over before, what on earth does it mean? Sure there's a respect thing but as more than one seller has maintained dibs is worth nothing, it's the first to cross the palm with cash who really gets.
So I understand your disappointment in not getting the item, but as you say, it's not like there is a contract in place.
