Speaking of Jesus, the pope was today quoted during his visit to Cameroon saying that distribution of condoms will aggravate the problem of AIDS on the continent.
Yeah, that all happened last week when he touched down for the start of his tour of Africa, this is not new though, this has long been the Catholic position, as far back as the early 90's the Catholic church has promoted the idea that condoms are ineffective against the transmission of HIV - against the mountain of scientific evidence to the contrary.
Of course it's simply a lie, and a very dangerous one in any situation, but an incredibly dangerous lie to be promulgated by a man, who holds such authority. A continent with a congregation of more than 150 million poor, largely uneducated and credulous African Catholics, a continent already in the grip of an AIDS epidemic, with whole countries now hitting 30% infection rate, does not need to be dragged further into hopelessness and despair by bronze age superstitions.
The Pope is an incredibly efficient engine for death in Africa, a monumentally naive man, I expect for each foot step he takes on the continent a thousand graves will be dug.
