i agree with what ed says at the moment is may seem bizzare as the equipment is evolving,
and the specific frame example she used are good, the new charge and the vans bike being the ultimate examples i can think of, when i looked in shop 14 the other day stacked in the corner were some riders bikes that had chunky freestyle forks and much wider tyres that i expected.
Also i think its bound up in the skateboard / bmx influence outwith riding styles, its the same mentality and creativity and many people will come from these backgrounds.
