  • hi everyone,

sorry to say that i've just bagged a last minute ticket for the hell of the ashdown so i won't be on the recce.

have a good one tho! it's a nice route, esp. after turner's hill. when i first did it i got lost in croydon, but the trick is to go straight through the town centre (basically a pedestrianised bit) where the road swings to the left. then from there it's straight through.

and as someone else said, there's a tricky steep downhill just before the M25.

    other than that, it's straightforward.

btw - HTFU and stop worrying about gear inches! the hills aren't too bad. there are three major. the first, in whyteleafe, is a bit unexpected and a bit mean, the second, turners hill is the easiest, and the 3rd at the dyke is easier than ditchling - longer and with flat stretches. i've done the whole thing (bar one v. short bit of the dyke) on an 84".
