Brief report:
Got lost again on the way there but not as badly as last year so made it to the start on time. They'd changed the format to a sportive style with swipe card timing and stuff. Also a tenner entry (some to charity and they had food and stuff provided and the route was signed this year).
The ride itself was pretty good (if you like fucked up conditions, I don't but I'm HTFU approved so can't back out). I spent some time in bunches and some time solo. I'd forgotten my glasses and almost no one had mudguards. WAC! I thought the Reliability Ride thing was supposed to be cheap, early season training with your winter bike, ie. GUARDS! I sound like Buffalo Bill but ffs I was just getting CAKED in mud and spray.
Anyway, after the Beacon, I broke away from the bunch I was with at 95k mark and hammered it to the finish.. the only trouble was.. I never found the finish. In my fscking haste I must've missed a sign. I'd done 110k for the ride and still no Nash Mills Lane. I was almost at Watford so decided, in a fit of swearyness at missing my post-ride coffee, to head straight home. Only, I couldn' head straight home either since I got lost another couple of times.. angry?.. me? Naaah..
My brakes were fucked - metal on metal fail. Ted Shred style ftw!
I called the organiser when I got home so they didn't send out a search party for me or anything :)
At the end of the day: 183k/7hr23min, actual ride was 100k in 3:50 or so.
Fun fun fun in the sun sun huh. Suffice to say I've eaten everything in the house.
Yes, I did the Harp Hilly 100 today.
