I can highly recommend Trappistes Rochfort 10, a very strong, robust, complex ale. Thick and dark, it develops in the mouth. Quite a strong taste of alcohol (it's over 11%), and a couple of glasses sets your head to spin. Quite lovely, not had the 8 or the 6.
From America there's Anchor Porter, from the ever-reliable Anchor brewery. A porter, obvs, but unlike the monks beer, far more quaffable.
