Haven't ridden one, but can tell from the ballon tyres, step through frame and sit-up and beg riding position that there is no way I would be riding it on a busy road, and no way I would let my girlfriend commute on a main road on one. I'm sure the reason you like riding your track bike on the road is becasue its light weight and snappy handling so why should it be any different for a girl?
Also why are smaller wheels a good thing? Bigger wheels are better as they tend to roll over things like potholes and manhole covers better than smaller wheels, hence the rise in popularity of 29er mountian bikes.
