Okay re site security I got an email back from them forwarding a response from the people who deal with their payments.
The frame in the middle has a https (I since checked the pages source code and this was then clear) connection but not the main page. The company they get to do the banking responded by saying there is a Mcafree logo a the bottom so I should not worry, but since when was a jpeg a sign of a security?
I went for the 185 km in the end and though do or die is the way to go because if I complete the 125 km I'd wish I'd done the 185 km.
