On a note about OCD cleaning, I just took my geared bike apart and though the parts are in excellent condition the frame is (might be) fbar due to rust. Ripped off lots of paint to check and it looks bad.
what do I do?

Not sure how you check for frame integrity on a steel frame ?

I would strip the frame completely and assess it from there.
