The M180s are good for the price, but as people have said, MTB shoes with ratchet straps are a bot more performance orintated and so will have stiffer soles. My M180s were a bit less stiff than my SIDI Dominators but there's not much difference. The older M180s also had slightly fragile ratchet mechanisms. I broke one on a car bumper, but people who use them off road seem to break a few more. The fit of the Shimanos is good if you have narrow feet.
