In local government/NHS etc. London Weighting makes a hell of a difference to your salary. Working central you get the Inner London rate which is about a 10%-15% top-up.
If you live as far out as you can and aren't actually spending the extra on the cost of commuting/living you'll be quids in. And the pension schemes are great

Hopefully that'll be me in what... 6 years. Applying to do medicine as a second degree and London looks like home because the missus wants to do competition law and London is where it's at. Works for me.
