I'm 7.5 ish according to google maps and Brockley is 5.3. There are loads of places to so rent don't stress over it you'll want to be able to meet people though as your coming to a new city so don't go too far out, just trawl gumtree and have a look at where they all are on google maps. It will be difficult for you as you can't just pop down to have a look at places easily from Scotland without spending a lot of money.
