Perfectly walkable. I have them on when I ride to the pub and walk to and from bike store at uni, no problems. Really comfy riding, too.
Re the sandals... I wouldn't, if you brake with your legs. I wouldn't trust the straps to hold me in tightly. I don't get sandals on a bike in general... if you come off, your feet will surely get shredded to bits?
