  • stand over the wheel with it vertical grab the top of the tyre with both hands, with your thumbs pointing outwards and the tread of the tyre in the fleshy part of the lower thumb push the tyre downwards while squeezing the tyre between thumb and fingers, slowly work your way round the tyre so your hands are getting further apart from each other. what you are trying to do is push the tyre on and using your bodyweight to force a bit of slack round to the 12 o.clock position.(part of the tyre furthest away from you on the floor). once your hands get closer together you can flip the tyre over the other way and use your thumbs/levers to get the bead over the rim.
    hard to describe this method but i have never had a tyre defeat me and i haven't had to resort to metal levers. tyre removal works in the same way, push the tyre down, work your way round from each side then use the lever or thumbs.

    That's what I was trying to describe... Much better explanation than me though.
