If you run a 1/8 chain you can run 3/32 rings/sprockets. You just can't have 1/8 rings/sprockets with a 3/32 chain. Also you can mix and match sprockets and chainrings. 1/8 is just a bit wider than 3/32. I have a 3/32 ring, 1/8 sprocket and chain, works fine :)
