I hear ya man, a few others have asked about it as well. I lined it up along another one of my bikes and the saddle is at nearly the same exact height. I think it has a lot to do with the vintage lugs and the crazy geometry of the rear triangle. Not to mention the seat lug ends pretty low and the saddle is super narrow which means it needs to sit a little higher. That def adds to it's length visually. In any case, it was an awesome project to build and fits me perfectly. Rides better than I could've hoped for!
