I’ve waxed just under a hundred chains, but something is off about a Brompton chain that I’m trying to re-do.
I noticed the drivetrain ticking, and found several stiff links upon inspection. The chain hadn’t been used much, so I removed the wax with hot water, skipped the ultrasonic cleaner, rewaxed in a pot with lots of agitation, left to cool until firm but not fully hardened, ran the chain over my usual wax-loosening pipe a few times, stored it inside over night. Went to finish today and it was unusually stiff, and my normal loosening routine didn’t do a thing. Decided to loosen one single link by hand but even that took ≈2 minutes instead of seconds. Left it in a tray on a radiator and once it warmed a bit it was very compliant, but once it cooled again it became very stiff.

Anyone else struggling with waxed chains in this cold? Fresh silca wax, normal method to run it in isn’t working,
