I couldn’t find anywhere that’d let me pick it up (as I do with the oxygen and propane)
My local BOC stockists seem perfectly happy with me picking up acetylene bottles. They haven't stopped me from doing so yet, at any rate. I have made a special bottle-holding device for the back of the car though, involving lots of ratchet straps, to hold them in place during transit.

Definitely not as hot, seems like it can do most of what acetylene does though, or at least enough of it that I don’t feel the need to go to the bother of acetylene.
The oxygen and propane are on the ‘deposit for the cylinder and pay for refills’ basis where with acetylene you’d be renting the cylinder and I couldn’t find anywhere that’d let me pick it up (as I do with the oxygen and propane) so was going to have to pay an extortionate delivery fee which just in itself would have been equivalent to like 3 or 4 refills of propane.
Edit: propane is also meant to be a fair bit safer than acetylene.
