• Thanks! Lovely photos. Excuse my ignorance (and apologies for being a bit off-topic), but how is S. Africa different to Kenya for a safari? Totally new to it all.

I'm up in Manchester, so probably out of range to look at your lens, but thanks for the offer - if only we'd started planning it a bit sooner!

@C4r1s I have seen those, but I like the idea of it all being weather- and dust-sealed. I've dreams of taking photos of rainy rally stages at some point if I own the lens, or just using it for general all-weather hiking like I do the 16-55.

I've only been to Kenya but @PeteJChurchill's photos seem to have loads more vegetation. I remember wide grasslands so not much in the way. Random example (from ~2004, shot on film with a 200mm lens IIRC).

  • Excellent - I'd love to take the film camera but it seems Way Too Silly when I have the Fuji (and I like the Fuji when I use it!)

  • Yeah I think this is a key difference from memory (I was 13) Maasai veerrryyy wide open and flat. Incredible but very different to Kruger.

The other big thing that’s a massive positive for Kenya is in Kruger you can only go on the roads. Kenya it’s basically anywhere your guide can drive so you can go looking for stuff rather than hoping it’s near you.

Only two experiences and one a very long time ago, but can’t recommend them both enough. Safari is awesome.
