Do you have a budget in mind?
I don't think waterproof/shockproof is important, you're standing relatively still, they're going fast.
Get a good storm cover for the body and lens.
I shot motorsport on a 400d and the cheapest 70-300 zoom for over 10 years before I bought a 7D2. You can see the difference in quality but I think the 400d did great for pics I didn't need to sell but still managed to anyway.

My sons do a lot of bmx and Downhill which means I do a lot of standing watching them do this. What’s a good starter digi camera with a bit of zoom for taking action shots, doing some slow no video (my phone is good at this but less good at zoomed photos). Needs to be tough and is waterproof a thing?
