• Should work. Those new style road FD's are absolutely miles better than stuff from before if setup right, got to absolutely nail the static cable tension though as the little 2mm grub screw 'cable tensioner' isn't really enough.
Same for MTB FD's, they started making a type that swing out sideways instead of lower pull or upper pull, way easier to setup, way easier to shift and cable routing is clean and gives excellent mud clearance. 2x or 3x would have sold in much bigger numbers for years over 1x if they launched that FD type a few years sooner. You can also run any of them with full length outer straight into the bracket, so good for a few reasons.

  • Yeah I didn’t use the 2mm grub because it wasn’t really working in both directions, just did it with the inline adjuster the bike has in the gear cables.

Maybe I’ll still upgrade it to an Ultegra one just to be fancy.

  • One of the best thing about the latest cables is that it's like setting up the older Di2; you just adjusted the upper and lower limiter which does not rely on the cables tension at all (after you set it up when lining up the white line on the left side).

Old derailleur mean the tension have to be just right to shift and trim it.
