It'd certainly be the obvious option for getting to and from the office! What sort of areas would you look at if you were in my shoes?

Assuming you work in Stratford and you’re thinking of the commute ease?
There are some really nice places in Essex, and you could look in Cambridgeshire and consider trains into Liverpool Street or Farringdon, and Elizabeth line into Stratford.
It’s personally not something I would relish - the 35min door to door I do at the minute does my head in - but it’s an option!

It's hard to say really, depends what amenities you need and distance too them.
Hastings could be a left field option, to Brighton.

I know many people take the mickey but I moved to Romford 6 years ago, as it was what I could afford. I have a 2/3 bed terrace with a garden bigger than I can manage on a quiet road, with pleasant neighbours.
It's a 10min fast train into Stratford or 20mins on the Elizabeth Line (although I mostly cycle - to be transparent, the cycle is quite full on but I still enjoy it and have few issues)
Budget-wise - a house similar to mine is ~£400k
The reputation is far worse than the reality., in my experience.
