  • I think having an idea of what you want is the first step.

    If it were me I would

    1. remove everything below those 4 main branches (personal preference)
    2. Remove anything dead
    3. Remove branches criscrossing
    4. Stand back and have a think and assess.

    But probably end up doing something like

  • So the funny thing is... I did a much more "softly softly" thinning out job than that, but next door have been cutting down their ash next to it and have come along and cut all of the branch down that strays over their side to that same level. Fair enough, he said he might trim a few bits and it's his right as it crosses over, but definitely feels like a "here's how you do it"!
