Does anyone know anything about gardening?

Thanks - yes it's a corkscrew. I quite like the shape so it's probably a job of thinning out but there are so many branches I struggle with how to do that in a way that will regrow well! All the things I read talk about cutting just above nodes etc but then I do that and end up with long branches still unless I cut back to the coppice style heads...
