• Got bored because winter means no gardening so started a new project I'm calling The Mound. We have a raised bed which we built out of shit bits of wood, it's very shallow and nothing grows well in it plus the wood is falling apart. Today I decided to shift 500L of soil on top of it to create a mound. It's pretty shady so I'm looking at getting some evergreens and winter interest. I moved a smoke bush and a small red acer before making the mound which I'll put back but looking at getting some sarcococca and pyrocantha and thinking about a tree. I did originally have an elder here before the bed which did brilliantly but was in the way of Simon's darts playing spot so might stick another one of those in.

    Anyone else wishing winter away??

  • Sounds like a cool project. Is it going to be like a grassy knoll or you mean all planted up with stuff?

Not really. I'm enjoying my hellebores, snow drops are out, Japanese quince is still in flower.

I've just ordered 100 snowdrops in the green as looking down on the garden I think I need more. I have no idea what happened to all the ones I planted. I feel like I've only really got a cluster from the original ones my mum gave me when we first moved in.

Also I still need to finish prepping the veg patch, tidy the mess, and prune my hibiscus, so with busy weekends even those tasks are a challenge.
