When i got my first e-reader kindle in 2008 ish, the killer feature for me was that with my Newspaper subscription, I got my daily edition downloaded without having to be connected to wifi, even when abroad. I took it on holiday to NZ and my newspaper downloaded every day no problem.
I now have a Fire HD, as i do more streaming with it (as well as reading). My Fire HD was a gift so they didn't get the no-ads version, but honestly I do not get adverts in my books, only on the lock screen.
