I'm rewatching it. 3 episodes in. Struggling a bit because I'm irritated by Agent Cooper being played as a tedious doofus. Wondering whether to blame the directing or the dialogue or MacLachlan. Is he a crap actor? Maybe Hollywood thinks so - Lynch was the only one who gave him any big parts. I imagine Willem Dafoe speaking Agent Cooper's lines.
Sherilyn Fenn is another irritant. She's just a nothingburger. She and MacLachlan are made for each other. If I'd been editor her screen time would have been halved. She can't carry the long pauses.
Luckily there's plenty of good casting. Even the bird at the beginning of the titles has got the right amount of menace shrouded in innocence.
