Will it make a difference? Yes
Will that difference be positive or negative? No one can tell other than predicting based on your historical response to training load. Your current response to the same training load might not be the same though - physical changes and mental/lifestyle changes can impact what added work will do.
Personally, I seemed to respond well to "more" so if YOU think you can add volume without getting too knackered to do all the sessions well, then I would probably suggest doing it. But if I were you I'd still have a look at previous years and see what the session quality/load was like first for a better idea about adding work and how you cope.
hippy
I've got five weeks before the North Road Hard Riders. Haven't been that consistent over Christmas and New Year but did do some riding, and have been following a TR plan.
Last year I did -
Monday: 1 hour intervals
Wednesday: 1.5 intervals
Friday: 1 hour intervals
Saturday or Sunday: Unstructured 3 or 4 hour outdoor ride
Went well at the race.
This year I've been doing -
Tuesday: 1 hour intervals
Thursday: 1.5 intervals
Saturday or Sunday: Unstructured 3 or 4 hour outdoor ride
I feel like I could easily add another 1hr session like last year, but will it make any difference five weeks out? Sessions are all around threshold
