In fact the Squadrats privacy policy clearly says

Our App requires your outdoor activities data (such as bike rides, runs, swims, etc.) in order to be functional to you. The moment you allow the Squadrats App to read data from your fitness app (such as Strava), or allow our Mobile App to track your activity, the data from your activities will be sent to our servers. This data then becomes publicly accessible to other users of the App. By using the App you agree that your activity data becomes public.

Which is clearly at fundamental odds with new Strava policy - but then, does the Strava policy apply to already ingested data? 🤷

  • Showing the ride traces like the example might be a problem, but showing a map with coloured tiles of where I've been may not be, so Squadrats may just have to remove the ability to display traces of other users.

I've only wanted to look at the traces of other uses a couple of times, and that was mostly out of curiousity. I've never "needed" to look at one to see where they accessed the tile as that can be guessed most of the time. JFrance did get a couple of tiles (as have I) thanks to GPS jitter but other people's stats don't bother me (I'm trying to clean up my own data though).

  • I had a walk reported recently that had GPS gitter. I don't think it had got me any tiles it must've just annoyed some poor darling. I cut the offending bit out and cleaned up my RWGPS tracks.
