No riding for me as I broke my thumb three weeks ago
I feel your pain. My right thumb got proper smashed up in a bike accident September last year. Plaster on for 6 weeks, then at least another 6 weeks with a splint and physiotherapy. It has healed but is far from being what it was before. The most grievous persisting problem is the destruction of my handwriting, once a very pleasing italic style. Also, wiring plugs or anything with small screws. Happily, bike riding is OK other than using the Campag Ergopower thumbshifter when it's cold.

could be worse... On 1st Dec last year (date is etched into my memory) I nearly cut all the fingers off my right hand with a table saw. Three months later I could work & ride again

No riding for me as I broke my thumb three weeks ago and had it operated on two weeks ago but I did manage to put my singlespeed back together so I can hopefully ride it soon.
