    It's a damn fine rule of thumb; just about as good as they come. Just pointing out that even that one has exceptions.

  • Don't wanna derail this thread any further, but... Of course there are exceptions, a fair few of my closest mates have come out of the other side of heroin addiction/alcoholism/etc and are doing great, some others weren't so lucky.

    When a junkie is in full flow, drugs are all they care about, you or anyone else doesn't matter anymore.

  • Yeah, this is exactly what I meant. I've had very good friends get addicted and it's difficult to watch them change from someone you liked to someone who is only interested in getting their next fix. The collateral damage to everyone close to them is tragic.

    Thankfully most get through it.
