• With everyone celebrating the Turkish pistol shooter and how he doesn’t need all the fancy kit to win silver at the Olympics, what if fancy kit is what makes the difference between silver and gold? Marginal gains and all that jazz.

  • Having just watched a bit of the 50m rifle, I was intrigued by their suits. According to one Reddit thread, the suit would increase the average shooters score by 1 (out of 10). Not an insignificant improvement!

  • Suits at 3 position rifle are, unfortunately, one of the major advantages, and teams are always trying to find ways around the rules, and the rules are constantly changing. A decent suit often costs more than the rifle and is a significant barrier to taking up the sport. In Europe there are plenty of second-hand suits floating around, but in the UK not so. 50m prone rifle is not an olympic sport - and you get less help from the suit, so at international meetings it's still possible to see people shooting in the same jacket they've worn for 20 years.
