Photos are amazing, landscape looked Mongolia if you didn’t say it was Finland. Never been that far North, but would love to now after seeing the photos.

How beneficial/essential is the suspension fork?

It is certainly nice to have the fork and rear suspension wouldn't be out of place either, but if a rigid bike was all I had I'd ride that. The trails are often rocky.
