In general it is as you say, any tattooist worth their salt wouldn't be hugely keen on just replicating something someone brings in on a bit of paper. Anyone would be ok with you coming in with that and saying "I want a cartridge bearing, sort of like this" though, I would expect.
Both my suggestions are into bicycles in some capacity, if that helps.

Cheers - this is just the sort of advice I needed. I guessed that would be the case these days and I'm not against someone else improving/refining it - I'd want to simplify a bit from my example anyway.

I showed the ninja tune logo I wanted to the guy who I was talking to about possibly doing mine, his eyes lit up and he started reminiscing about the label and his favourite artists from bitd & we spent the whole of the session where he replicated it listening to stuff from the label.
It's nothing fancy & not everyone's cuppa but I'm really liking it and am glad it wasn't done freehand.

Can I get some tattoo advice please? Have sudden midlife crisis urge to get another. When I last had one (about 25 years ago), things were quite different ... I'm keen to get something a bit like the below image on my inside wrist. Where could I go to get this done with a high level of neatness? I'd refine/redraw in Illustrator, but is that acceptable? Do decent tatooists only want to do their own designs now? I'm open to someone else refining it, but equally am happy doing it myself.
