Same here, when it's more complicated than acrylic on wood it definitely makes sense to talk to someone.

When I need paint I go to the shop, tell them what I'm doing and buy what they recommend.
When I need paint I get my friend Derek the Decorator to source it for me, as he knows far better than I do what the best option is. Mind you, I also then pay him to apply it for me. Yes, I know, it's the DIY thread...

When I need paint I go to the shop, tell them what I'm doing and buy what they recommend. Old fashioned but works well. A local independent paint supplier.
