Mind you, if you believed what you read in the papers (and didn't everyone?) you (and I) were about the only people in the home counties who weren't knobbing her. Bum face, Harry's dad, etC etC

Carling denied it publicly at the time, but boasted about it privately. He showed her off in the club's restaurant, grinning madly at everyone who did a double take. Their table somehow moved from the restaurant area towards the bar, which meant you couldn't walk to the changing rooms without zigzagging around the happy couple. There was a rumour that he was giving his rugby mates all the details of what she was like in bed. I'd put money on it being true.

They did make the mistake of snapping me one day as I was opening the door to leave. It happened to lots of members because one of the staff had sold a story that she was knobbing one of us. As soon as I was clear of the door and fully visible they stopped snapping. Most insulting. Obviously they decided I wasn't in her league. I really should have tried to chat her up when passing on the stairs or something, but I bottled it. As far as I know the only member she knobbed was Will Carling.
