Well, the boiling water didn't really work. I expected the wax to melt and run off but even after agitating with a toothbrush it still didn't want to move. It was slightly easier to scrape off with a Blunt tool but not really the effect I was after.
I skim read the previous few pages and as I have a bit of unleaded lying around in the shed for my petrol mower I gave this a go. That seems to have fixed it, apply petrol with a toothbrush and most of it comes off quite easily. The persistent bits can then be scraped off with the tool mentioned above.
I also removed the chain and soaked in petrol. Circa an hour since my last post and this seems to have worked nicely.
