forum-approved canti brakes
The forum can speak for itself but the #tester_approved solution is to throw your cantilevers in the sea and get Shimano 90mm V brakes

Is there any sense in swapping these for a new set of Tektro CR710
Probably not, you would still have the 'low profile canti' issue of the modulation being extremely sensitive to set up, that's inherent in the geometry. CR720 is equally cheap, and fixes the geometry problem, although wide cantis can introduce clearance problems you didn't have before.
I'd also sack off the headset mounted hanger and get a fork crown stop to stiffen the resolve of the front brake, and of course try different pad compounds. To the extent that I ever had a cantilever set up could tolerate, it was with road (55mm) pads, but the Kool Stop H6 shoes are as much as new brakes so that's probably not a path you want to go down

Recently replaced the 20+ year old drivetrain on my commuter/tourer with a spa cycles triple, 11-34 cassette and new derailleur. V pleased with it.
Final thing to sort out is the brakes. I've never been able to get good performance out of them and commuting in the rain recently has made an upgrade feel a bit more urgent... Is there any sense in swapping these for a new set of Tektro CR710s (the only affordable but decently reviewed cantis I can find online)? Or are there another forum-approved canti brakes I should be looking out for? Or should I just try and service these and accept that my spannering is the issue and not the brakes?
